When Is It Scheduled To Take Place?
The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 — India’s first-ever international javelin competition — is scheduled to take place at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Bengaluru on May 24.
The State Association and government entities, notably the Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), have been collaborating extensively with the Karnataka government to bring an outstanding event to the state and Bengaluru.
Who All Were Competing In The NC Classic?
Paris Olympic bronze medallist and two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, along with Rio Olympic silver medallist and former world champion Julius Yego of Kenya, are among the top stars who will be participating in the competition.
Alongside Chopra himself, a plethora of Indian athletes — including Kishore Jena, Rohit Yadav, Sachin Yadav, and Sahil Silwal — were also been added to the Indian lineup for the event.
Why Could The NC Classic Be Suspended/Postponed?
Similar to the IPL, the NC Classic is also set to host a plethora of international athletes. When the country seems to be stuck in a state of rising military tensions, there would be huge security concerns for overseas athletes to travel to India for the event.
What Could Be The Solution?
Postponement/Suspension of the NC Classic would be the obvious step to take. But, in what can be a very long shot, a relocation of the entire event might help salvage the timelines.
But then again, since the event has been put together with the aid of multiple State Government authorities, and not particularly by any individual private entity, it would prove to be immensely impractical to consider this option.
