Two Suspected Terrorists Of Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh Arrested In Birbhum
The suspects were reportedly planning to target specific individuals and locations with the intent of committing acts detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
In a joint operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal arrested two individuals suspected of being members of the banned terrorist organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The arrests were made during simultaneous raids conducted on the intervening night of May 8 and 9, in the Nalhati and Murarai areas of Birbhum district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Ajmal Hossain (28), a resident of Chandipur village in Banior under Nalhati Police Station, Birbhum, and Saheb Ali Khan (28), a resident of Chatra village under Murarai Police Station, Birbhum.

According to the STF, both suspects were actively propagating the ideology of JMB, a proscribed terror outfit in India. They were part of a module involved in spreading seditious and jihadi materials through encrypted and sophisticated communication channels. Their objective was to radicalize and recruit Muslim youth to join the terror organisation, with the ultimate aim of waging war against the Government of India.
The suspects were reportedly planning to target specific individuals and locations with the intent of committing acts detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of the country. They also attempted to procure firearms and were in the process of preparing explosives to further the ideology of “Ghazwatul Hind."
Notably, Ajmal Hossain had previously attempted to infiltrate Bangladesh in connection with jihadi activities and is believed to have links across other regions in the subcontinent.
Both individuals are being presented before the Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) at Rampurhat, Birbhum today. The STF has sought police custody to facilitate detailed interrogation and to uncover other members and links associated with the module.
