Tensions continue to escalate between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, further fuelled by India’s missile strikes in the neighbouring country. Amid the tense standoff, yet another war of words has erupted between retired cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and Shahid Afridi. It began with the former Pakistan captain’s controversial comments about the Pahalgam attack, which prompted a sharp response from Dhawan.
In an interview with a local Pakistani channel, Afridi blamed the Indian army for being incompetent at providing security to the targeted tourists in Pahalgam. In a quick response, Shikhar Dhawan took to his X handle and reminded Afridi of the past confrontations between India and Pakistan, including the Kargil War. “Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao Shahid Afridi. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!" Dhawan wrote in an April 28 post.

The banter didn’t end here as Shahid Afridi took a sly dig at the Indian cricketer and replied, “Forget about wins and losses; come and have tea with me."

While it has been a little over a week since the exchange occurred, a picture of Shikhar Dhawan holding a cup of tea is going viral on the internet in the backdrop of India’s retaliatory attack on Pakistan. With Operation Sindoor gaining massive momentum across the countries, the picture of Dhawan has left fans wondering if it means an indirect jibe at Afridi’s previous remark.

A parody account of the former Indian cricketer shared the picture, showing Dhawan inside the swimming pool and enjoying a drink in a mug. “Aur kaisi lagi chai padosiyon?" the caption added cheekily. The post was widely reshared with even more hilarious captions. One wrote, “The tea was fantastic: Shikhar Dhawan," while another added, “Shikhar Dhawan sips tea in a swanky pool, smirking with a cryptic post: ‘Kaisi lagi chai, padosiyon? ‘ after the Sindoor operation. Revenge served hot, with a side of sass!"
“Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan’s digital strike on Pakistan, that too with tea," another comment read. But did the cricketer post it? After a little digging, it was found that the picture was originally posted on February 7, 2024, and is now being used by his fans to mock Afridi. It is yet to be seen if the former Indian opener has any reaction to the now-viral tea picture.
