Conclave, directed by Edward Berger, has gained renewed attention following the recent passing of Pope Francis. With the real-life conclave currently underway at the Vatican to elect his successor, Indian audiences can now stream the Oscar-winning film that explores this very event. Starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, the film is based on Robert Harris’s 2016 novel and won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Released in Indian theatres on February 7, the film was well-received by both critics and audiences. Berger’s film, which was listed among the top films of 2024 by the American Film Institute, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The news was officially shared by the streaming platform on Instagram and wrote, “The conclave is now in motion."

As per the Official Synopsis, “Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, selecting the new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope’s wake, secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church."
In addition to its Oscar win, Conclave enjoyed an impressive run across major award circuits. The period drama was nominated for 12 BAFTA Awards and won four, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing. At the Critics’ Choice Awards, it received 11 nominations and took home Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Acting Ensemble. The film also won Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes. Furthermore, it earned two nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and clinched the top honour for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Other than Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, Conclave also stars John Lithgow, Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze, Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini.
