The Home Ministry ordered that mock drills will be conducted on May 7 in 244 district across the country. The drill will be carried out to enhance the emergency preparedness following the Pahalgam terror attack. The direction came on Monday as India prepared to strike terror posts in Pakistan along the Line of Control (LOC) on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday under Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes destroying 9 terrorist bases including Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strike came as a sharp response to Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Here’s all you need to know about the security drill.

The comprehensive drill focuses on major activities across civil defence districts, extending to village level. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat are among the states and UTs where the security drill will take place. (File Pic)

The security drill will include Air-raid siren activation, blackout measures, bunker checks, evacuation rehearsals, communication drills, training civilians, camouflaging critical infrastructure and shadow control room tests. (File Pic)

Participants in the mock drill will Civil defence wardens, home guards, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) members, and school and college students. (File Pic)
