IPL 2025 LIVE Updates: IPL Suspended For One Week, BCCI To Review Decision

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

“So proud of our armed forces, saluting their bravery to keep us all safe. Jai Hind,” star India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru Krunal Pandya posted on his Instagram story. 

“It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” a BCCI official told PTI, confirming the suspension of the high-profile league, which was to wind up on May 25 in Kolkata.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) was suspended indefinitely on Friday due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Majority of the participating cricketers are not comfortable playing, according to a report in the Times of India.

Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals, who had their game abandoned on Thursday, have started their journey to Delhi.

BCCI is in a discussion after the game between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off midway because of the cross-border tensions, with the players from both teams now expected to catch a train back to Delhi.

“We didn’t have an emergency meeting yesterday. The day has just started, we will assess the situation and take a call on the IPL over the course of the day,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI.

Indian Premier League chairman Arun Dhumal was seen signalling to fans to evacuate the stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, as the India-Pakistan tensions increased and forced the game between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals to be abandoned.

The IPL game between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals on Thursday was abandoned midway due to air raid alerts in the neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot, casting a cloud of uncertainty over the remainder of the tournament.

But as videos swarmed in, one captured a local saying, “Why should we be afraid? It is Pakistan who need to be scared.”

As per the available information, foreign recruits of IPL 2025 want to head home at the earliest, and if this turns out to be true, then BCCI will have no option but to suspend the league for a while.

According to news agency PTI, the players of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings are safely back at their hotel in Dharamsala.

“Players of both the teams are safely back in the hotel from the stadium. There is no blackout here at the moment. The hotel is under heavy security, and we are waiting for BCCI’s decision,” a Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association source told PTI.

Following the conclusion of the PBKS-DC IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala, IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal, while speaking to reporters, when asked about the league’s future, said, “We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind.”

According to a report in Times of India, “Overseas players of most franchises are in a state of panic, and they would need some serious assurances from the BCCI and the Indian government to stay back in the country for the tournament.”

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal on Thursday said that government directives are being awaited before deciding on whether to continue with the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League amid the military clash with Pakistan, but Friday’s match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow “is on as of now”.

According to a latest report in PTI, which reported sources as saying, foreign players participating in the IPL want to head home at the earliest.

The players and support staff of both the teams will now be brought to Delhi aboard a special train from Pathankot, which is about 85km from Dharamsala. The teams will reach Pathankot by road.

Dharamsala’s lone airport and the ones in neighbouring Kangra and Chandigarh are closed for operation right now as part of precautionary measures to thwart Pakistani attacks.

A special train has been reportedly been organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from Una to evacuate players from Dharamsala.

“We are organising a special train from Una which is not far from Dharamsala to bring everybody home safely. As of now the match has been called off and the stadium has been evacuated. We will take a call on the tournament’s future depending on the situation tomorrow. As of now, players’ safety is utmost important,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said in a statement.

The IPL 2025 match between PBKS and DC in Dharamsala was called off after 10.1 overs. The teams and the spectators were eventually evacuated from the stadium for their security. The capacity of the picturesque ground is approximately 23,000, and it was packed to about 80 per cent of it at the time of evacuation.

“There was no panic from the spectators. They (spectators and players) were moved out of the stadium very carefully and safely,” an HPCA source told PTI.

As of now, both Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings are safe in the team hotel, and there are no blackout protocols in place. Both franchises are awaiting details from the BCCI.

According to a report in news agency PTI, with the cancellation of the PBKS-DC match, it is not clear whether the league will proceed any further, and it is learnt that a BCCI meeting is currently in progress amid security concerns raised by the participating foreign players.

The 58th league match of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 8, was cancelled midway following air raid alerts in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot, putting the entire league at risk of being called off due to India’s ongoing military conflict with Pakistan.

With the cancellation of tonight’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, the future of the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League is doubtful.
