The government held an all-party meeting regarding Operation Sindoor carried out by India to avenge the terrorist attack on civilians in Pahalgam.

The government held an all-party meeting in the national capital on Thursday to brief the Opposition about Operation Sindoor, carried out by the Indian armed forces to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.

This comes a day after the military strikes decimated several terror camps in Pakistan’s Punjab and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge raised questions over the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the meeting that was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, sources said.

The Prime Minister had also skipped the previous all-party meeting to brief on the situation after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Opposition had then demanded the presence of PM Modi.

PM Modi today chaired a key security meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan at around the same time as the all-party meeting.

Opposition Extends Support To Govt

Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the Opposition stands with the government in this hour of crisis.

“In this hour of crisis, we are with the government, and we don’t want to create any controversy," he said.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi complimented the government and the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and suggested that the government should seek the US to designate The Resistance Front as a terrorist organisation.

“I have complimented our armed forces and the government for Operation Sindoor. I also suggested that we should run a global campaign against the Resistance Front (TRF). I also suggested that the government should request the USA to designate it (TRF) as a terrorist organisation. We should also make efforts to grey-list Pakistan in FATF," he said.

Who All Attended All-Party Meeting?

From the government’s side, Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, BJP chief and Health Minister JP Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among other ministers.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi were also present in the key meeting.

Other Opposition leaders who participated in the meet included AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, NCP SP MP Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, DMK MP TR Baalu, RJD MP Prem Gupta, YSRCP MP YV Subba Reddy, BJD MP Sasmit Patra, CPIM MP John Brittas, and AAP MP Sanjay Singh.

    Ahead of the meeting, Rijiju said that it is the responsibility of the government to brief all parties in the country about the “big action" taken by the country against terrorism.

    “Our country has taken a big action. We have called for an all-party meeting over Operation Sindoor, which was conducted by our armed forces. We must brief all the parties about the situation, as it is the responsibility of the government, and the PM has directed us to do so. The entire country is with the armed forces. We all must stand united," he said.
